James Robert Death and Obituary – With profound sadness, the family of James Robert Thomas III, affectionately known as “Robby,” announces his passing on January 18, 2026. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on December 28, 2006, Robby was the cherished son of James Robert Thomas, Jr. and Jennifer Renee De La Paz Thomas. His untimely departure leaves family, friends, and his community heartbroken, as all who knew him remember his vibrant spirit, unwavering kindness, and love for life.

Robby graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 2025, where he distinguished himself as a talented member of the school’s football team. His dedication to the sport did not end with graduation; he returned as a volunteer coach, inspiring younger athletes and passing on his love for the game. His commitment, teamwork, and mentorship were a testament to the character and generosity that defined him throughout his life.

Beyond athletics, Robby was deeply engaged in his passions. He loved fishing, working on his truck, skiing, and racing, embracing life with curiosity and joy. He was also a dedicated employee at J. Thomas Electric, where he earned respect for his reliability, work ethic, and positive attitude. Robby was a loyal boyfriend to Taylor and a trusted friend to many, always ready to share a laugh, lend a helping hand, or provide support when needed.

Robby is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jenny De La Paz of Las Cruces, New Mexico; step-grandfather Robert Rifenbery of Noxen; and his great-grandparents, Anthonius (Tony) and Edna Thomas, and Russel and Eleanore Traver. He is survived by his loving parents, James Robert Thomas, Jr. and Jennifer Renee De La Paz Thomas, and his brother, Cooper, all of Monroe Township. Additional surviving family members include his paternal grandfather James Thomas Sr. and step-grandmother Nancy Thomas of Tunkhannock, paternal grandmother Patricia Rifenbery of Noxen, and maternal grandfather Jose De La Paz of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Funeral services to honor Robby’s life will be held at the Harding Litwin Funeral Home, located at 123 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock. A viewing will take place on Friday, January 23, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by funeral services on Saturday, January 24, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Orcutt’s Grove Cemetery in Noxen.

Robby’s presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind memories of joy, laughter, and love that will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and community forever. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the warmth, generosity, and spirit he brought into the lives of everyone he met.
