Nicky Green Death and Obituary: Trinity College Student Nicky Green ’29 Found Dead in Dorm, Campus in Mourning

Nicky Green Death and Obituary – The Trinity College community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Nicky Green ’29, a 29-year-old student whose death has deeply shaken students, faculty, staff, and loved ones. Green was found deceased in his dorm room in Jones Hall on Thursday, Jan. 22. The tragedy was confirmed in an email sent to the campus community by Trinity College President Dan Lugo at 9:34 p.m. that evening, marking a somber moment for the institution.

Earlier that night, at approximately 8:14 p.m., campus observers reported seeing law enforcement personnel removing a body on a stretcher from the first floor of Jones Hall, a first-year residence located on the south side of Trinity’s campus. Campus Safety officers were present throughout the day, and Hartford Police arrived on the scene before 6:30 p.m. A friend of Green’s shared that he had not heard from him since Tuesday night, a silence that now echoes with grief for those who knew him.

Friends and classmates remember Nicky Green as a dependable, hardworking, and genuinely kind individual. One close friend described him as “always a good, honest person who I could rely on,” emphasizing his loyalty and steady presence. Green reportedly took great pride in his academic dedication, once sharing that he had not missed a single class during the previous semester — a testament to his determination and sense of responsibility.

Those who spent time with him also recall his humor and easygoing nature. He was known for his quick jokes and warm conversations, making him a comforting presence among peers. Beyond academics, Green enjoyed music, with friends noting his fondness for the band Cake — a small but telling detail that reflects the personal interests that shaped his identity.

Green’s passing marks the first death of a currently enrolled Trinity College student since Ryan Chisholm ’25, who died in November 2022 following what the college described as a tragic accident. The loss has prompted an outpouring of sorrow across campus, with many struggling to process the sudden absence of a fellow student and friend.

In his message to the community, President Lugo emphasized the availability of counseling and wellness resources for those impacted. Staff from the Counseling and Wellness Center were present Thursday night in the common space of Jones Hall, offering immediate support. Additional drop-in counseling sessions were arranged for Friday, alongside a designated reflection and support space in the campus Chapel beginning at noon. These efforts reflect the college’s commitment to caring for students during this difficult time.

Green’s family has requested privacy as they navigate this devastating loss. The Trinity community has been asked to respect their wishes while honoring Nicky’s memory with compassion and unity.

As students gather to comfort one another, Nicky Green is remembered not only for his academic dedication but also for his kindness, humor, and quiet impact on those around him. His passing
