With heavy hearts, the Natchez community mourns the tragic loss of Deja Davis, age 29, who was fatally shot on Sunday night in the Maryland Heights subdivision. According to Natchez Police Chief Caroline Green, Deja was sitting in a vehicle with Curtavius Knight, 26, when the car was fired upon by one or more suspects. Her passing leaves family, friends, and the community grappling with shock, grief, and unanswered questions.

Police officials have stated that no arrests have been made in connection with Deja’s death, though suspects have been identified and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in bringing clarity and justice.
Curtavius Knight, who was in the vehicle with Deja, was airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to another hospital following the shooting. As of this morning, officials have not released information regarding his current condition. Knight has a prior criminal history, having pleaded guilty to accessory before the fact of first-degree murder in February 2022 for the 2018 killing of 17-year-old Shakeria King. Knight was convicted of being present in the vehicle when Montreal Brown opened fire, killing King, who was standing outside at Holiday Apartments. Brown received a 70-year prison sentence for the murder, while Knight was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years suspended, and served five years in the Adams County Jail before being placed on post-release supervision.
Deja Davis was more than the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. At 29, she was a daughter, a friend, and a member of the Natchez community whose life touched the people around her. Her sudden and violent passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The Natchez Police Department continues its investigation, working diligently to bring those responsible to justice. Meanwhile, the community is asked to keep Deja’s family, friends, and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. May her memory be a blessing, and may she rest in peace.
