With heavy hearts, the Indianapolis community mourns the tragic and untimely loss of Michael C. Lockridge, age 56, whose life came to a devastating end on Sunday in the 800 block of West 29th Street. His passing has left family, friends, and neighbors searching for answers while grappling with profound grief.

According to the Marion County Coroner’s Office, Michael was found deceased after first responders were called to the scene of a burning vehicle. The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) arrived and extinguished the fire, at which point officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) made the heartbreaking discovery that Michael was inside the vehicle. Authorities later confirmed that, in addition to the fire, Michael was also suffering from trauma, deepening the concern surrounding the circumstances of his death.
What should have been an ordinary day ended in tragedy, and the sudden, violent nature of Michael’s passing has shaken those who knew him and even those who did not. At 56 years old, Michael was more than a name in a report—he was a son, a friend, a neighbor, and a human being whose life carried meaning and history. His loss is a solemn reminder of how fragile life can be and how deeply one life can ripple through a community.
The case remains under active investigation by IMPD, and authorities are urging anyone who may have seen something or who has information—no matter how small it may seem—to come forward. Answers matter, not only for justice, but for the loved ones left behind who deserve clarity and peace.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dustin Keedy with the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or by email at Dustin.Keedy@indy.gov.
As the investigation continues, the community is encouraged to keep Michael C. Lockridge and all who loved him in their thoughts and prayers. May his memory be honored, his life remembered beyond the circumstances of his death, and may those closest to him find strength during this incredibly difficult time.
Rest in peace, Michael. You are not forgotten.
