NATCHITOCHES PARISH — A tragic crash along Interstate 49 has claimed the life of 25-year-old Dejuan D. Dickerson of Highland Park, Michigan, leaving family, friends, and loved ones mourning a life taken far too soon.
On February 12, 2026, at approximately 1:39 p.m., troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-49 near Mile Post 140 in Natchitoches Parish. What began as a routine roadside stop quickly turned into a devastating tragedy that has deeply affected those who knew him both in Louisiana and in his home state of Michigan.
According to the initial investigation, a 2025 Freightliner was stopped on the southbound shoulder of the interstate due to a flat tire. Dejuan Dickerson, the driver of the vehicle, had exited the truck and was attempting to change the tire. For reasons that remain under investigation, a southbound 2023 Freightliner drifted onto the shoulder, striking the left side of the parked 2025 Freightliner and impacting Dickerson.
Dejuan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 2023 Freightliner, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, suffered only minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
