The community of Logan and surrounding areas are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kalind Myles Freeman, 19, whose life was tragically cut short in a single-vehicle crash in Hocking County early Tuesday morning. His passing has left family, friends, classmates, and neighbors grieving a young life taken far too soon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:38 a.m. on February 17, 2026, along State Route 664 north of Huston Road in Marion Township. Kalind was traveling northbound in a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup when he reportedly lost control on black ice. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.
Kalind was pronounced deceased at the scene by a representative of the Hocking County Coroner’s Office.
Emergency responders from the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Logan Fire Department, Marion Township Fire Department, Hocking County EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene, working together under difficult conditions to respond to the tragic incident.
Kalind Myles Freeman was just beginning his journey into adulthood. At 19, he carried hopes, dreams, and ambitions for the future. Those who knew him describe a young man full of energy, kindness, and determination — someone who valued friendship, family, and the simple moments that bring people together. His presence brought warmth and laughter, and his absence leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled.
He was more than a name in a report. He was a beloved son, a friend, a classmate, and a young man whose life held promise and purpose. Loved ones remember his smile, his spirit, and the genuine way he connected with others. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the moments he shared.
This tragic loss serves as a painful reminder of how quickly road conditions can become dangerous, especially during winter weather. Authorities noted that the vehicle did not have working safety belts and emphasized that seatbelts remain the single most effective safety device in any vehicle. Taking a moment to buckle up every time can save lives.
As the community grieves, many are holding Kalind’s family close in their thoughts and prayers, offering support during an unimaginable time of sorrow.
May his loved ones find strength in one another, may his memory remain a guiding light, and may his life never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Kalind Myles Freeman. Gone too soon, remembered forever.
