Matthew Coles, Marion Car Accident Death News – Authorities in Arkansas have reported a fatal crash on Interstate 55 near Marion that left one person dead and three others injured on Thursday morning. The Arkansas State Police (ASP) confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m. on January 29 at the nine-mile marker in Crittenden County.

According to the preliminary crash report, the collision involved multiple vehicles, including two semi-trucks and a passenger car. A northbound 2017 Freightliner, driven by 50-year-old Ronnie Black of Walnut Ridge, was merging from a nearby rest area when it was struck from behind by a 2019 Freightliner driven by 57-year-old Zivko Josipovic of Hudsonville, Michigan.
The impact caused Black’s semi-truck to leave the roadway, cross over the cable barriers, and enter the southbound lanes. There, it collided head-on with a 2006 Honda Accord driven by 43-year-old Matthew Coles of Marion. Tragically, Coles died as a result of the crash.
Black, Josipovic, and a minor passenger in Coles’ vehicle were transported to a local hospital with injuries. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, and all remain under medical care.
Arkansas State Police officials noted that icy road conditions were present at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the severity of the collision. Authorities are reminding drivers to exercise extra caution during winter weather and when roads are icy, particularly on interstates and high-traffic areas.
The crash prompted temporary road closures while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene. ASP investigators continue to review the circumstances of the incident, including the sequence of vehicle movements and environmental conditions, to determine the factors that led to the fatal collision.
Incidents like this highlight the importance of cautious driving, especially in challenging weather conditions. Officials encourage drivers to maintain safe distances, reduce speed on slippery roads, and stay alert when merging or entering highways.
Authorities said updates may be released as the investigation progresses. The Arkansas State Police also remind anyone with information about the crash to contact their office.
The local community is mourning the loss of Matthew Coles, and officials have expressed condolences to all affected by the crash. Families and neighbors are encouraged to reach out for support and take extra care when traveling during icy or hazardous conditions.
