Jordan Grant Hilo, Hawaii Death and Obituary: 20-Year-Old Jordan Grant Dies in Early Morning Hilo Car Accident

Jordan Grant Hilo, Hawaii Death and Obituary – The Hilo community is mourning the tragic loss of Jordan Grant, a 20-year-old resident who died early Thursday morning following a single-vehicle crash on Pauahi Street, according to the Hawaiʻi Police Department.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 12:07 a.m. on January 29, 2026, near the intersection of Pauahi Street and Piopio Street, an area that includes a bridge with metal safety railings. Authorities say Grant was traveling eastbound in a 1998 Honda Civic when the vehicle veered out of control at a high rate of speed.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Grant’s car skidded before violently striking the metal railing of the Pauahi Street bridge. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle. Grant, who was the sole occupant, was found unresponsive at the scene when first responders arrived.

Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Grant was pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m., just minutes after the crash. Police have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

According to investigators, excessive speed is believed to have played a significant role in the crash. Additionally, authorities stated that alcohol and/or drugs are suspected contributing factors, though this has not yet been confirmed. To determine the exact cause of death and whether impairment was involved, an autopsy has been ordered by officials.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has taken over the investigation. Officers continue to examine physical evidence from the scene, including vehicle damage, skid marks, and roadway conditions. The crash serves as another stark reminder of the dangers associated with speeding and impaired driving, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and reaction times may be reduced.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed Grant’s vehicle prior to the collision to come forward. Authorities believe additional information could help clarify the events leading up to the fatal accident.

Anyone with relevant details is asked to contact Officer Laurence Davis of the Hawaiʻi Police Department at (808) 961-2339.

Jordan Grant’s death has sent shockwaves through the Hilo community, with friends and loved ones remembering him as a young man whose life ended far too soon. As the investigation continues, officials emphasize the importance of safe driving practices to prevent similar tragedies on Hawaii’s roadways.
