A late-night house fire in Macon-Bibb County has claimed the life of a woman and her dog, leaving a neighborhood mourning a tragic loss. According to Coroner Leon Jones, the victim has been identified as 73-year-old Deloris Barron. The incident occurred late Monday night at a residence in the 2200 block of Price Drive.

Officials with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department said emergency crews were dispatched to the home at approximately 11:18 p.m. after reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy fire activity coming from the roof of the home.
Fire crews immediately began working to contain the flames while additional firefighters entered the residence to conduct a search. Despite their efforts, Barron was found inside a bedroom toward the back of the house. Emergency personnel later confirmed that she had died at the scene. Coroner Jones said she was officially pronounced deceased at approximately 12:40 a.m.
Barron’s dog was also found inside the home and did not survive the fire.
