Troy, AL – Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two people who died in a fatal crash early Sunday morning following a police pursuit near the Troy University campus. The victims have been identified as Rosolando V. Givens, 52, and Alkesa S. Liptrot, 45, both residents of Troy, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:48 a.m. on February 8, 2026, when a Troy University Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2008 Audi A4 parked near Elm Street close to the university. Rather than comply, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a brief chase. Authorities say the car soon left the roadway and struck a utility pole, killing both occupants at the scene. Neither Givens nor Liptrot was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division, which continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
Family members, friends, and neighbors are grieving the sudden and tragic loss of two community members whose lives were cut short in the early morning hours. Local officials have not released further details about what led to the initial attempted traffic stop or any preceding events.
As the investigation continues, community leaders and residents alike are expressing condolences to the loved ones of Givens and Liptrot, remembering them as valued members of the Troy community.
