Zachariah Padilla, 4-Year-Old Identified After Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Busy Brooklyn Intersection — Will Surveillance Footage Help Police Find the Driver?

Authorities have identified a young child who died following a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Brooklyn.

According to the New York City Police Department, the child was 4-year-old Zachariah Padilla of Brooklyn, New York. The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. near the intersection of Rockaway Parkway, Brooklyn, New York and Linden Boulevard, Brooklyn, New York.

Police said the child entered the roadway and was struck by a vehicle described as a white Ford SUV. The collision occurred near the main entrance of Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.

Officials said the child’s mother immediately carried him into the hospital for help. Despite efforts by medical staff, the child later died from his injuries, according to authorities.

Investigators said the driver did not remain at the scene. Police reported that the SUV was last seen traveling northbound on Rockaway Parkway shortly after the crash.

Community members expressed concern following the incident. One local resident said it was troubling that a driver involved in a crash would leave without stopping, emphasizing the importance of remaining at the scene and cooperating with authorities.

City safety data also highlights ongoing concerns about the intersection where the crash occurred. According to New York City statistics, at least 30 pedestrians have been struck by vehicles at or near the intersection of Rockaway Parkway and Linden Boulevard over the past four years.

Police confirmed that surveillance footage from the area has been recovered and is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

At this time, no arrests have been announced. Authorities say the investigation remains active as officers work to identify the driver involved.
